Farmers protested over alleged irregular agricultural power supply in several Telangana districts between September 10 and 17, blocking roads and surrounding substations in Suryapet, Wanaparthy, Khammam, Medak and Vikarabad. Their complaints included low voltage, interruptions and claims of six to eight hours of supply. The crops, meanwhile, were expected to manage on political assurances.
In Medak’s Peddashankarampet, farmers blocked a national highway and later submitted a petition to AE Shyam Sundar. Former Narayankhed MLA Mahareddy Bhupal Reddy and other BRS leaders joined the protest and demanded 24-hour quality supply. Farmers in Kalwal, Narayanpet, claimed low voltage had stopped motors and affected irrigation on about 200 acres. Those figures are protesters’ claims, not independently verified crop or feeder data.
Separate reports recorded protests in Suryapet, Wanaparthy, Khammam and Vikarabad. In Wanaparthy, Electrical DE Srinivasulu attributed supply difficulties to increased demand linked to El Niño and officials assured farmers of action. The state has not published the feeder-wise supply figures, crop inspection reports or a statewide response needed to settle the matter. The Congress government has supplied slogans, protests and explanations; the electricity data is still taking the longer route.
