Hyderabad gets 1 GW on paper, 100 MW first
TCS says HyperVault has secured 264 acres for a phased AI data-centre campus, with OpenAI linked to the first phase. The headline number is 1 GW; the starting number is 100 MW.

Hyderabad has secured a sizeable AI infrastructure project, although the brochure has arrived before the full build-out. TCS says its subsidiary HyperVault AI Data Center has secured 264 acres for a campus of up to 1 GW, developed in phases according to demand and technology requirements.
The first phase is planned at 100 MW, with OpenAI identified in TCS’s annual report as the anchor customer. TCS and its partners say they could invest up to Rs 70,000 crore and create “several thousand” direct and indirect jobs. Those are projections, not money already spent or jobs counted in a published breakdown. The project’s first instalment is therefore 100 MW, not a functioning 1-GW campus.
TCS also promises green energy and “water-neutral design principles”. It has not published the project’s expected water withdrawal, water source, electricity demand, approval status or commissioning date. A report’s estimate of 20 million litres a day at full 1-GW operation is a generic extrapolation, not a Hyderabad project figure. The IEA says data-centre electricity demand is rising sharply, but that does not supply Hyderabad’s missing numbers. The Congress government in Telangana has secured the announcement; the project documents still need to catch up with it.
