Hyderabad gets Microsoft’s fourth cloud region
Microsoft says its India South Central region is live, three-zoned and built for AI. The Hyderabad investment figure, however, remains somewhere inside the company’s India-wide arithmetic.

Microsoft’s India South Central cloud region in Hyderabad became generally available on August 6, making it the company’s fourth cloud region in India. Microsoft said on September 21 that the three-zone facility was “built, live and running”. Telangana, meanwhile, gets something more useful than another promise about becoming an innovation hub: infrastructure that is actually online.
Microsoft says the region is designed for advanced AI workloads and forms part of its US$20.5 billion commitment to India’s cloud and AI future. That is an India-wide commitment, not a disclosed Telangana investment figure. The company has not published the Hyderabad site, capacity, power consumption, jobs, contract values or local tax impact. The press-release maths remains impressively broad.
Microsoft also says the facility uses mechanical cooling with effectively zero water use for cooling, and names Adani Group, Bajaj Finserv, HDFC Bank and PB Pay as early customers. Those claims come from Microsoft; no independent audit or water-use data was found. The launch is real. The grander local-benefit claims are still waiting for numbers.
