Hyderabad gets 1GW AI campus, not 7,000 jobs
TCS says its HyperVault subsidiary has secured 264 acres for a phased data-centre campus, with investment of up to Rs 70,000 crore. The jobs number doing the rounds is less solid.
The proposed campus has a stated capacity; the 7,000-job figure remains unconfirmed.
Hyderabad has secured a 264-acre site for a large-scale AI data-centre campus with capacity of up to 1 gigawatt, TCS said on September 5. The project company is HyperVault AI Data Center Limited, a TCS subsidiary, with TPG holding 49% on a fully diluted basis.
HyperVault and its partners are expected to invest up to Rs 70,000 crore to build and manage the infrastructure, according to TCS. “Up to” is doing useful work there: the release does not say the full amount has been committed or spent. The campus will be developed in phases, based on customer demand and technology requirements.
TCS said the project will generate “several thousand direct and indirect jobs”. Reports have put the figure at 7,000, but that number does not appear in the company’s formal release or the primary material reviewed. The project’s exact location, construction timeline, state incentives, approvals, customers and power arrangements have not been published.
The Telangana government says the campus strengthens Hyderabad’s AI position. For once, the headline has a real number behind it. The 7,000 does not—yet.
