IFFI talks big. Telugu waits.
Delhi held the first steering meet for IFFI 57. The BJP-led Centre promised more masterclasses and mentorship; the documents promise dates. Neither promises a Telugu slate — because none was announced.

Analysis — The first steering committee meeting for the 57th International Film Festival of India was held in New Delhi on August 21, chaired by Dr L. Murugan, Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting — according to a DD India report. The official paperwork says the festival itself runs in Goa from November 20–28, organised by NFDC with the Goa government and the Entertainment Society of Goa, with Ashutosh Gowariker as festival director.
The BJP-led Centre’s talking points in the DD write-up are familiar: expand masterclasses, structure mentorships, bring in big international names, coordinate better. All fine — and all still at the level of “discussed”. The official IFFI rules list the usual programme blocks — masterclasses, In Conversation, workshops, Talent Hub — and the PIB call for entries fixes Indian Panorama at 25 feature and 20 non-feature films, plus a Best Debut Director and a Best Web Series award.
For Telangana and Telugu cinema, here is what was actually on the record: no selection list, no Telugu titles named, no special initiative announced. Even the deadlines don’t line up — PIB closed Indian Panorama submissions on August 10 (hard copies August 17), while the IFFI site pushed them to August 24, 6 p.m. If that was an extension, nobody in Delhi has bothered to say so.
So yes, there will be sessions, bazaars and “Creative Minds” — the brochure survives every government. What matters to filmmakers is selection, and on that the BJP-led Centre offered vibes, not names.
