Jurala gets water after farmers stop waiting

Water was released into the Priyadarshini Jurala Project’s right canal on September 23, after days of farmer protests and an inflow of about 2,687 cusecs, according to a report citing project developments. Telangana ministers and MLAs had also met Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar in Bengaluru and sought water for the Jurala command area.
The Telangana delegation said Shivakumar assured them that 7 TMC would be released at 5,000 cusecs a day for 30 days. Karnataka has not publicly confirmed that commitment in the material available. The Telangana Irrigation and CAD Department says Jurala serves about 1,04,124 acres through its two main canals; its project document lists the designed irrigation scope as 1,02,200 acres.
Former MLA Marri Janardhan Reddy credited the release to the farmers’ protests and sustained BRS pressure. That is his political claim, not an independently established cause. The documented sequence also includes upstream rains and the reported Karnataka discussions. The government has published neither the canal discharge nor the volume released. Karnataka’s promised paperwork remains as dry as the canal was.
