Jurala left canal: stop, threat, flow
A report says irrigation to Jurala’s left canal was halted at midnight and restarted by Sunday evening after BRS leader Chittam Ram Mohan Reddy warned of a protest. The Telangana Congress government has not explained why farmers were cut off in the first place.

According to a Telugu report from Amarchintha dated August 9, irrigation officials stopped releases to the Jurala Left Main Canal from Saturday midnight, telling farmers water would flow only while the Krishna’s flood lasted. BRS leader and former Makthal MLA Chittam Ram Mohan Reddy then said he would stage a dharna at the project if supply was not restored. The report says water was resumed on Sunday evening.
That sequence is on one outlet’s word; no discharge figure, order number, reservoir level or named officer is on the record in the material available here. The Irrigation Department’s own documents put the left-main-canal command in Atmakur, Kothakota, Pebbair, Weepangandla and Kollapur, and the KRMB records a design capacity of about 1,460 cusecs — none of which excuses shutting farmers off at midnight without an explanation.
If the release really did stop and start within a day, the question is simple: why was it cut, on whose instruction, and will supply continue through kharif? The BJP-led Centre cannot help with answers here; this is the Telangana Congress government’s system to run. It has not bothered to tell farmers — or anyone — what changed between midnight and Sunday evening.
