Nepal floods leave Telugu pilgrim numbers unresolved
Telangana and Andhra Pradesh officials reported people unaccounted for, but the latest consolidated list is still missing.
Officials have yet to publish a consolidated list of pilgrims still unaccounted for in Nepal.
Telangana officials said 23 people with Telangana roots were being traced after floods in Nepal: six Telangana residents and 17 Telangana-origin NRIs. The cases involved 20 complaints and were being coordinated with the Centre, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu and Nepali authorities. An earlier report put the figure at 22, so even the count is travelling without a confirmed itinerary.
Andhra Pradesh officials said seven of 41 people from the state identified as stranded in Nepal had not been accounted for as of August 28. A 28-member Tirupati group was confirmed safe in Kathmandu, while former DRDO chairman G Satheesh Reddy said he and 30 other Hyderabad pilgrims were safe in Tibet and seeking an alternative route.
The Embassy issued three emergency numbers for affected Indian nationals: +977 985 131 6807, +977 970 910 7500 and +977 981 032 6117. It also said it was working with Nepal Police to identify Indian nationals among the deceased and hand over remains to their families.
The governments have not published a current consolidated list showing who remains unaccounted for. The paperwork, at least, is still looking for the pilgrims.
