Podu farmers queue; app says no
Rudrangi’s podu-land farmers lined up at the Rythu Vedika and said the urea booking app shut them out. Local officials reportedly blamed eligibility rules tied to a Central app. Telangana’s farmers, once again, meet Delhi’s fine print before they meet fertiliser.
Farmers in Rudrangi said podu-land records did not let them book urea through the current app.
Farmers from Rudrangi mandal in Rajanna Sircilla queued at the Rythu Vedika on Monday and protested that they could not book urea, according to a local report dated August 25. Farmers from joint Manala and Girijanathanda villages turned up with copies of their podu-land proceedings, saying shops had sent them to agriculture officials for around ten days, and officials kept saying the online registration was not working. The report does not name the officers.
According to the same report, local officials told farmers that podu lands had been covered earlier under a state-level system but were not eligible for registration under the current Central app, and said they would escalate the issue. The Telangana Agriculture Department’s official “Fertilizer” app exists and is meant to let registered farmers check availability and book quantities based on eligibility, per its listing updated August 9. That confirms the system; it does not confirm why Rudrangi farmers’ bookings failed.
In July, the Union government claimed it had allocated Telangana 7.28 lakh tonnes of urea for April–July against a 6.73 lakh-tonne pro‑rata requirement, even as the state sought more. Allocations on paper are not access at a mandal counter. If podu-land farmers are being filtered out by a Central rule, the BJP‑led Centre needs to say so in public and fix it; if not, name the rule and the officer who applied it. Telangana’s fields cannot wait for another round of Delhi’s paperwork.
