Prabhas vs Mahesh: 33 days apart
Sandeep Reddy Vanga puts Spirit on March 5, 2027. SS Rajamouli plants Varanasi on April 7, 2027. The ‘bigger’ debate is marketing; the dates are the only hard numbers so far.
Spirit is dated March 5, 2027; Varanasi, April 7.
Two Telugu-led tentpoles just circled their 2027 weekends. Sandeep Reddy Vanga announced Prabhas–Triptii Dimri starrer Spirit for March 5, 2027; the date has since been reiterated in press interactions. According to the Indian Express report, Vanga said there was “no doubt” about March 5 — a confidence fans will file under “announced until further notice.”
SS Rajamouli then posted April 7, 2027 for Mahesh Babu’s Varanasi — a date mirrored on BookMyShow’s listing with Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the cast and M. M. Keeravani on music. That leaves 33 days between the two, or “around 37 days” as Vanga rounded it at a Hyderabad presser, where he said the window should be enough for both films.
Pressed with the “₹1,000-crore film” framing, Vanga quipped in Telugu that Rajamouli’s film is “bigger.” That’s an opinion, not a budget sheet. In the same chat he joked Spirit will end up with an A certificate and said roughly half the shoot is done — again, his account, not an audited milestone.
The only firm numbers today are the announced dates: March 5 for Spirit, April 7 for Varanasi. Everything else — scale, spend, screen share — gets proved in theatres, not at press conferences.
