Rajamouli says Lyon put him on the wall

The Institut Lumière hosted a Rajamouli retrospective and an RRR screening. The filmmaker says they went one further: a plaque on the Mur des Cinéastes. The institute’s public pages confirm the visit; a museum note on the plaque itself isn’t visible yet.

S.S. Rajamouli says the Institut Lumière in Lyon has permanently added his name to its Mur des Cinéastes — the commemorative wall on the museum’s façade — during his visit last week. He described being introduced by Thierry Frémaux and being led to a plate “covered with a red cloth”, calling the honour humbling. This is his account on the record.

What the institute’s own pages do show: a Rajamouli retrospective in Lyon from June 27 to July 17, with screenings of Eega, RRR, Maryada Ramanna and the Baahubali films, and an RRR show on July 1 at the Institut Lumière Hangar, 23 rue du Premier-Film. The institute’s announcements also flagged his presence and a signing event.

What we have not seen on an accessible official page yet is the museum’s own line that the plaque was installed — wording, placement, or a photo in the institute’s feed. The wall exists; the filmmaker says his name is now on it. The institute’s listings confirm the visit; the plaque detail awaits a museum-side note.

For Telangana, the signal is simple: a Telugu director drawing a retrospective at the birthplace-street of cinema is the work doing the talking, while Delhi’s culture-war file is still arguing over who counts as “national”. The BJP-led Centre did not put him on that wall; his films did. Congress and TDP can keep trading press notes about “global recognition”; the marquee in Lyon was already spelling it out in French.
