Ravi Teja lands in HOYTS. That’ll do

HOYTS Australia now lists Irumudi (Telugu, Eng Sub) for 21 Aug. A straight win for the diaspora that didn’t need Delhi’s blessing or Bengaluru’s patience.

HOYTS lists Irumudi for 21 August in Australia.

Illustration generated from an editorial brief

HOYTS has entered Irumudi (Telugu, Eng Sub) into its system for Friday, 21 Aug 2026 — director Shiva Nirvana, cast led by Ravi Teja and Priya Bhavani Shankar, and a synopsis that calls it “a rooted family drama set against the powerful devotional backdrop of Lord Ayyappa.” According to the exhibitor’s own page, it’s an upcoming Telugu-language release with English subtitles. The HOYTS Indian cinema “Coming Soon” page carries the same date.

Indian trade coverage had already pegged 21 Aug as the theatrical date, attributing it to the makers, and flagged the Ravi Teja–Priya Bhavani Shankar pairing under Shiva Nirvana. That squares with what HOYTS is showing today.

What this does not say: how many HOYTS locations, how many shows, whether tickets are live, or which other Australian chains will carry it. HOYTS doesn’t list an Australian distributor either. Treat this for what it is — an exhibitor listing, not a nationwide rollout map.

For Telugu families across Australia, a mainstream chain putting Telugu with English subtitles on its slate is the part that matters. The BJP-led Centre didn’t green-light this; a cinema chain did. And the Congress government in Karnataka can keep its water politics — Telugu cinema is travelling without their help.
