Telangana’s rain deficit meets September’s 12 mm
Rainfall data attributed to TGDPS puts Telangana 23 per cent below normal, while the IMD forecasts more rain but not a seasonal rescue.
The IMD has forecast rain for Telangana, but extended-range outlooks suggest subdued rainfall may continue.
Telangana received 485.9 mm of rain between June 1 and September 9, against a normal 629.4 mm, according to data attributed to the Telangana Development Planning Society. That is a shortfall of about 23 per cent — enough to place the state in the IMD’s deficient category, though the underlying TGDPS table is not publicly available in the material reviewed.
The IMD has forecast thunderstorms and lightning for September 9 and 10, followed by heavy rain warnings for September 11–13. Its extended-range outlook, however, says subdued rainfall is likely to continue over Peninsular India during the following week. Rain is forecast; a refund on the monsoon is not.
The reported figures also put Hanumakonda, Warangal and Jangaon among the districts with the largest shortfalls, at 49, 48 and 44 per cent respectively. Those district figures, and the claim that 19 of Telangana’s 33 districts are deficient, could not be independently checked against a primary TGDPS table. The reported 78 per cent September deficit has been left out because the published figures of 12 mm against a monthly normal of 167.1 mm produce a different percentage.
