The Pet Basheerabad police later said four people were injured — one with a leg fracture, three with minor injuries — and that a case has been filed on grounds of negligence against the institution and the event manager. Reports from the night initially put the number lower; the police account is the clearest so far.
Accounts attribute the collapse to spectators climbing onto the rig. That is the police version at this stage, and the investigation will have to answer the rest: who cleared the setup, what load it was rated for, and why crowd control let people onto it in the first place. There was no official stampede, the police added.
The university and the organisers have not bothered to publish a safety brief, a crowd plan or even a number for how many people they invited. For a campus that hosted a national film promotion, that silence is the whole statement.
