Congress Solves Cabinet Discipline, Telangana Loses Another Minister

The Revanth Reddy government has discovered a revolutionary principle of cabinet discipline: if a minister’s daughter criticises the Chief Minister, remove the minister. Konda Surekha was dropped from the Telangana Cabinet on September 3 after a Parkal ticket dispute involving her daughter, Konda Sushmitha, who opposed Revanth Reddy’s public backing of sitting MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy. The Governor approved the removal “with immediate effect”. Praja Palana has now acquired a family WhatsApp-group edition.

The government’s version is discipline. Surekha’s version is selective discipline. After her removal, she questioned why Revanth Reddy could publicly speak of remaining Chief Minister for 10 years while others were punished for political dissent. She also alleged that departmental decisions were being taken through the Chief Minister’s Office without consulting her. These are allegations, not established findings. They are nevertheless a remarkable quantity of cabinet dysfunction to fit between two official explanations.

Surekha then named several people she said were part of a conspiracy, including Kondal Reddy, Tirupati Reddy, Vem Narender Reddy and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. She alleged that Revanth Reddy pressured the Congress high command by threatening to resign if action was not taken against her. Delhi, in this account, is not merely the party headquarters. It is the appeals court, human-resources department and emergency family mediator for Telangana politics.

The original dispute involved representation, BC leadership and political space in Parkal. The final product is simpler: a minister is out, the Chief Minister faces public accusations, a daughter’s political opinion has become a cabinet matter, and the Congress high command has been invited to referee the consequences. The party promised governance under Praja Palana. It has delivered a live demonstration of how a national party weighs Telangana’s internal politics against instructions and anxieties from elsewhere.

The government has not collapsed. It has merely converted cabinet functioning into factional arithmetic, with Delhi holding the calculator. Telangana now has one fewer minister and several more explanations. Silence has been made effective immediately.
