Congress Turns Cabinet Management Into Family WhatsApp Admin

Telangana Congress has unveiled its latest governance innovation: cabinet removal by family WhatsApp. No need for a formal disciplinary process, a policy disagreement or even the inconvenience of waiting for the election. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy publicly backed Revuri Prakash Reddy for Parkal, the Konda family objected, and Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla approved Surekha’s removal from the Cabinet on September 3. The seat is still months away from being decided. The ministerial chair was dealt with first.

The Congress campaign promised a new political culture. It has delivered the old culture with better microphones and a fresh supply of phrases such as “organisation strengthening”. In practice, the sequence is beautifully efficient: the Chief Minister announces the future, a local family objects to the present, the party converts dissent into disloyalty, and the Cabinet becomes a noticeboard for ticket management. This is not exactly inner-party democracy. It is more like a family group where only one administrator can send messages and everyone else can be removed.

Konda Surekha has asked why Revanth’s own public claims about remaining Chief Minister for ten years, and his early candidate announcements, do not attract the same anti-party treatment. That is a fair question, though Telangana politics has never allowed fairness to interfere with hierarchy. Surekha’s daughter, Konda Sushmitha, objected to the Parkal decision and indicated she could contest independently. Surekha then warned of anger among Munnuru Kapu and Padmasali voters. The Congress response appears to have been that representation is welcome, provided it does not interrupt the leadership’s candidate list.

Surekha has also alleged political vendetta and “blackmail politics”. Those are allegations, not established findings, and require evidence and responses from those named. BRS MLA G Jagadish Reddy has sought an inquiry into related claims involving contractors and industrialists. That investigation should establish facts rather than supply another round of television furniture.

The Congress government has not resolved who will contest Parkal. It has resolved who will not sit in the Cabinet. In Telangana, the party’s internal ticket dispute has already produced a confirmed result: ministerial stability is conditional, but leadership certainty is permanent.
