80% complete, 60 TMC pending, records missing
BRS has announced a mass agitation over Kaleshwaram and Palamuru-Rangareddy. The political claims are specific. The public ledger is not.
Political claims outpace the published operating and progress data on PRLIS and Kaleshwaram.
BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao is expected to lead a mass agitation after the Assembly session over the alleged neglect of Kaleshwaram and the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, according to statements by T. Harish Rao after a BRS Legislature Party meeting. (Times of India)
Harish Rao said Kaleshwaram has water but the Telangana Congress government is not lifting it for farmers. He also claimed PRLIS was 80% complete under the previous BRS government and that finishing the balance would enable use of 60 TMC. Those are political claims, not independently verified operating figures. No current storage, inflow, pump-operation or lifting data was located. (Deccan Chronicle)
The Irrigation Department’s own PRLIS document describes a project designed around 2 TMC a day for 60 days, with 63.34 TMC of live reservoir capacity. It also lists works in progress and conduit packages still proposed for tender. That supports “unfinished project”; it does not certify “80% complete”. (Telangana Irrigation Department)
The government says Rs 36,437 crore has been spent on PRLIS, while the CAG has documented major planning, power and execution concerns around Kaleshwaram. Neither side has published the one table that would end the argument: dated storage, pumping, power, expenditure, physical progress and ayacut data. Until the Congress government produces it, its irrigation policy remains a press conference with missing columns.
