84 TMC, three lakh acres: Congress’s water arithmetic
Harish Rao has challenged the Telangana government’s account of Krishna-water use. The public record currently confirms less than the political briefing claims.
Conflicting figures surround Telangana’s debate over Krishna-water use and project costs.
BRS leader T Harish Rao has accused the Congress government in Telangana of wasting Krishna water and misleading the Assembly over an alleged 84 TMC drawn from Srisailam. The charge is recorded in a September 19 report, but the Assembly statement, department calculation and relevant proceedings have not been located. So “misled” remains an allegation, not a documented finding.
Harish Rao also cited utilisation figures for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, alleged that Kalwakurthy lifted only about 8 TMC, and said pumps under the Palamuru–Rangareddy project had been idle. The supplied research could not independently verify those figures or claims from a CWC table or project records. The Congress government in Telangana has not publicly answered them in the material reviewed.
One part of the wider argument is documented: the Narayanpet–Kodangal lift scheme received administrative sanction for Rs 2,945 crore and was designed to cover one lakh acres, according to the state’s Socio-Economic Outlook 2024. The claimed rise to Rs 6,825 crore is not established; a later state statement refers instead to approximately Rs 5,000 crore. Even the numbers have not agreed on the project yet.
