Airport boycott announced, disruption still uncounted
Cab unions say fares and airport penalties pushed them to boycott RGIA trips. The government has discussed a driver app for years; the airport still lists the same services.

Cab driver unions have announced a boycott of Ola, Uber and Rapido airport trips from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport over fares, waiting time and penalties. Reports place the start on September 10, with drivers seeking implementation of government-notified fares, a longer free drop-off window and action on unauthorised operations.
A Labour Department meeting on August 31 reportedly involved driver groups and the three aggregators. The Joint Commissioner of Labour, Ranga Reddy Zone, is reported to have advised them to implement fares under G.O.Ms.No.46, dated December 9, 2022. That order prescribes airport prepaid-cab fares, including ₹21 per kilometre during the day after the first five kilometres. The underlying letter and the order’s official copy were not available in the material reviewed.
The scale is less tidy. One driver group claims 35,000 drivers are participating; another report says 25,000 cabs. The airport’s own transport page continues to list app cabs, prepaid taxis, rental cars and Pushpak buses, and does not confirm a shutdown. So the boycott is documented. The airport-wide collapse is not.
The Congress government has discussed a T-Hub app for drivers since 2023 and reviewed gig-worker welfare policy in 2025. A September 2026 report still described the app as under discussion. The promise, unlike the ride, has not reached the destination.
