Amgen’s labs land in Genome Valley

Amgen’s own job posts confirm a Genome Valley laboratory operation; a local report says a new Science and Innovation Centre joins a seven-lab global network. The Centre can keep counting summits — Telangana is counting benches and BSL-2 hoods.

Amgen’s August 2024 release put its India technology and innovation site in HITEC City — six floors at RMZ Spire Tower 110, room for up to 3,000 people, operational from Q4 2024 — to build AI, data science and digital capabilities for its medicines pipeline, all in Hyderabad for its talent and AI depth. According to Amgen’s document, that was “Amgen India,” focused initially on tech, not wet labs.
Two years on, Amgen’s own recruitment material points to something more muscular at Genome Valley: an “Amgen Genome Valley (AGV)” site head to run scientific lab management and safety, and a facilities-and-lab operations manager for “our Genome Valley R&D site at Hyderabad,” citing BSL‑2/2+ environments, chemical management and R&D support. In plain English: lab infrastructure, not just laptops. Those are Amgen’s words, not spin.
A local report this week goes further, saying Amgen will open a Science and Innovation Centre at Genome Valley, fold it into a seven‑laboratory global R&D network, and quotes Amgen EVP Jay Bradner on integrating experimental science with data and technology. We haven’t located that announcement on Amgen’s newsroom; until it appears there, the seven‑lab claim and the “Science and Innovation Centre” name stay attributed to the report.
What is not in dispute is the direction of travel: Hyderabad first got the digital hub, and Amgen’s own hiring now describes a Genome Valley R&D site with labs. That is exactly the play Telangana built Genome Valley for — and exactly the sort of real economy move the BJP‑led Centre prefers to rebrand in a brochure. Telangana didn’t wait for a slogan; it signed a tenant.
