Anganwadi send-off, still at ₹1 lakh
Unions say Congress promised ₹2 lakh/₹1 lakh. What retirees are getting matches a 2023 BRS-era order: ₹1 lakh for teachers, ₹50,000 for mini-teachers and helpers.

Anganwadi unions are accusing the Congress government in Telangana of shortchanging retirees: they say the party promised ₹2 lakh for teachers and ₹1 lakh for helpers during the 2023 campaign, but payments being processed are ₹1 lakh and ₹50,000. That lower structure is what a September 12, 2023 order under the previous BRS government set out. According to contemporaneous reporting on that order, the state also raised the retirement age from 60 to 65 and added insurance/ex gratia and death-in-service assistance.
The higher ₹2 lakh/₹1 lakh figure is, at this point, a union-quoted campaign claim — no primary Congress manifesto or on-record statement located so far carries it. What is on the record is the BRS-era scheme: ₹1 lakh to retiring Anganwadi teachers and ₹50,000 to mini-teachers and helpers, plus Aasara pensions and specified insurance/ex gratia.
The unions, led by Anganwadi Teachers (Mini) Union state president Adepu Varalakshmi, say they have taken the demand to Women and Child Welfare Minister Seethakka and the department director. The department has not bothered to publish how many have retired, how many have been paid, or any instalment schedule. If the Congress promised more, it can point to where and when — or explain why it is now sticking to the 2023 order it inherited.
