Two BRS MLCs were arrested, suspended for the rest of the Telangana Legislative Council session and granted bail — all in the same 24-hour news cycle. Efficient, if nothing else.
Saifabad police arrested T. Madhusudhan Reddy, also known as Tatha Madhu, and B. Naveen Kumar Reddy on September 8 over alleged remarks about Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar during a September 7 confrontation near Gate No. 3 of the Assembly. The allegations came from Pollepalli Venkatesham, the Speaker’s Officer on Special Duty. The exact words have not been published in the material reviewed, and remain allegations rather than a court finding.
The case is reported as Crime No. 364/2026, invoking provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The Nampally court rejected police remand, granted both men bail on personal bonds of Rs 20,000 with two sureties each, and directed them to appear on September 17. The Council suspension followed an Assembly resolution. The Congress government now has two suspended legislators, a rejected remand plea and a case still waiting for the alleged words to be shown. The paperwork, at least, has already had a fuller day than the evidence.
