Congress suspends BRS bloc, loses the plot

The Congress government in Telangana has suspended more than 20 BRS MLAs for the remainder of the Monsoon Session, after disruptions continued across three sitting days. Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu moved the motion and Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar announced it on September 9, according to reports of the proceedings. K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao were among those suspended.
The exact number is unsettled: reports put it at either 21 or 22. Telangana Today also reported that Gangula Kamalakar was absent but included in the suspension. The BJP’s A. Maheshwar Reddy questioned whether the House had acquired a special “Revanth Reddy rulebook” for the occasion. The Assembly has not yet supplied the paperwork needed to settle the count or explain the absent member’s inclusion.
The confrontation followed Congress allegations about a “purification ritual” after a Dalit protest in Siddipet. The BRS disputed the images as AI-generated; no independent verification was found. Meanwhile, issues including Section 22-A, fee reimbursement and retired employees’ benefits waited outside the ring. The Congress government has managed to make the suspension count uncertain and the pending questions very clear.
