Hyderabad gets one urban plan, finally

The Telangana Assembly has passed the Telangana Core Urban Region (Integrated Governance) Bill, 2026, creating a common framework for the urban region up to the Outer Ring Road. It is intended to replace the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act, 1955 and address the administrative patchwork around Hyderabad. (NT News; Telangana Today)
The bill covers the reorganised Greater Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri municipal corporations. The government’s own bill says the existing arrangement has produced “administrative fragmentation, uneven service delivery” and constraints on region-wide infrastructure. Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu said the proposed maximum annual property-tax increase had been cut from 20% to 10%. The Assembly record confirming the exact vote, and the final enacted text, were not available in the material reviewed. Hyderabad now has one plan on paper.
