India won the Women’s Asia Cup by 72 runs. The trophy presentation then turned into a separate contest in Dubai on September 13, with the ceremony delayed and the Indian team not collecting the trophy from Asian Cricket Council chairman Mohsin Naqvi, according to event reporting by The Associated Press.

Naqvi is also chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and Pakistan’s interior minister. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told NDTV that India had warned the ACC it would not attend if the ceremony followed the arrangement used for the men’s 2025 Asia Cup. Saikia said the BCCI suggested that another ACC official present the trophy, but that the suggestion was not accepted. The ACC has not publicly confirmed or denied that account in the sources reviewed.

India instead held its own medal presentation, while the ceremony supplied another reminder that cricket administration can make a simple handover look like a summit meeting. The result remains less complicated: India beat Sri Lanka by 72 runs.
