Farmers protesting the proposed industrial park at Kallapur in Vikarabad district were reportedly taken into custody around 1.30am on September 14, after holding an overnight sit-in on a national highway. The report says Kallapur sarpanch Pulinder, former sarpanch Jangaiah and 15 other farmers were taken to the Vikarabad DTC. Farmers alleged they were not given drinking water until morning. The report attributes the account to the protesters; no police release, FIR or remand record was located.
The dispute is not new. Reports from March and April document opposition in Kallapur and Rapole to a proposed acquisition of roughly 1,197–1,200 acres for an industrial park, along with relay protests, hunger strikes and road demonstrations. Farmers accuse Parigi MLA T. Ram Mohan Reddy of misleading the Assembly and breaking an earlier assurance on the land. That Assembly exchange and alleged promise could not be independently verified. The Congress government’s land plan has produced plenty of paperwork-shaped tension, but no publicly located clarity on the legal basis of the reported detention.
