Kazipet wants 90% local jobs. Centre silent
BRS’s Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar has pressed Delhi to keep the Kazipet rail manufacturing unit fully public and reserve 90% of jobs for locals. The BJP‑led Centre has talked up trains; it has not said who gets the work.

BRS Hanumakonda district president Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar has asked Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to run the Kazipet rail manufacturing unit fully in the public sector and allocate 90% of its jobs and employment opportunities to local people, along with a separate Kazipet railway division and new services, as reported this week. That 90% is a political demand, not a policy on paper — yet. According to earlier BRS representations, the local‑jobs push has climbed from 60% in December 2024 to 80% in February 2026, now at 90%. What Delhi has put on paper is the plant itself. A February 7, 2025 Rajya Sabha reply by the Railway Minister records a Railway Manufacturing Unit at Kazipet, costed at Rs 521.36 crore, with Rs 251.09 crore spent by December 2024, to build and maintain modern rolling stock. A Ministry release on May 28, 2026 said the unit was “on the verge of completion” and would start by making 200 intercity trains in five years. It did not say how many jobs, who hires, or how “local” will be defined. The ask here is simple: a public‑sector unit, local hiring first, and clarity before the gates open. The BJP‑led Centre has found time to brand it; it hasn’t bothered to answer who in Telangana gets the paycheques.
