Road widening for Hyderabad’s Old City Metro corridor has reached an advanced land-clearance stage, with 833 of 888 affected properties acquired as of August 29, 2026, according to Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL). Fifty-five properties remain, including heritage and old buildings.
The work covers the 7.5-km Darulshifa–Chandrayangutta stretch, part of Corridor VI, the MGBS–Chandrayangutta Phase-II line. HMRL says officials are accelerating the relocation of power lines, poles and water pipelines, while removing assets from properties already acquired and securing the Right of Way.
The road is planned to widen to 100 feet, with 120 feet at station locations. Earlier project updates said the affected-property estimate had been reduced from 1,100 to 886 through redesign, more than 550 demolitions had been completed and Rs 433 crore paid in compensation.
The important distinction is that “critical stage” here means acquisition, demolition, utility shifting and preparatory work. The consulted material does not confirm that viaduct or station construction has begun, or provide a firm completion date. The metro is moving forward. Its pillars, for now, remain a future-tense feature.
