Ranabaali brings famine, rage and a release date
Vijay Deverakonda’s teaser places Rahul Sankrityan’s period action film during the 1876–78 Madras Famine. The history, for now, comes with a marketing department attached.

The makers of Ranabaali released the teaser on September 9, introducing Vijay Deverakonda, Rashmika Mandanna and Arnold Vosloo in Rahul Sankrityan’s period action film. The official listing schedules the film for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16, 2026.
The teaser places the story during the 1876–78 Madras Famine and depicts Deverakonda’s reported character, Singanamala Bobbili Ranabaali, resisting British rule. Mandanna is identified as Jayamma, while Vosloo plays the reported colonial antagonist Sir Theodore Hector. The film is presented as a Rayalaseema-rooted story, with the production campaign invoking folklore, history and erased names. Promotional copy, naturally, has already solved the problem of history by calling it “The Savage’s Oath”.
What remains unclear is the useful part: whether Ranabaali was a documented person, a composite figure or a fictional creation; which records informed the screenplay; and how closely the story connects to any specific freedom movement. The teaser gives the setting and the anger. The archive can wait for the film’s press notes.
