Ranabaali teaser brings Rayalaseema’s ‘dark history’ to Dussehra
Vijay Deverakonda leads Rahul Sankrityan’s period action drama, scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16.
The teaser for Ranabaali was released on September 9 ahead of its scheduled October 16 theatrical release.
Vijay Deverakonda arrives as a Rayalaseema warrior, and the British Empire gets cast as the villain it has historically made very little effort to avoid playing. The teaser for Ranabaali, titled “The Savage’s Oath”, was released on September 9, with the film scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16, according to the makers.
The film presents Deverakonda as Singanamala Bobbili Ranabaali, who rebels against a British officer amid drought and oppression. Rashmika Mandanna plays Jayamma, Ranabaali’s wife, while Arnold Vosloo plays the British antagonist. Rahul Sankrityan directs the film, produced under the Mythri Movie Makers banner, with music by Ajay–Atul.
The makers describe Ranabaali as a buried chapter of history and use phrases such as “our dark history” and “the might of an empire”. Those are the film’s promotional claims, not independently verified historical findings. Whether Ranabaali and the rebellion existed as presented will need more than a dramatic teaser and an empire-sized marketing line.
The film is scheduled to reach cinemas on October 16.
