Police arrested seven people in Vijayawada on September 14 in connection with alleged turmeric-water “purification” rituals near KCR’s farmhouse at Erravelli and roads around Varadarajpur, according to reports citing Telangana police. The arrests followed three FIRs invoking provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Protection of Civil Rights Act.
The accused were produced before a Gajwel court and remanded to judicial custody. Reports disagree on whether the remand is for 14 or 15 days; the court order has not been made public in the available material. Police have reportedly identified 21 accused across the three cases, though the formal roles of all seven arrested have not been independently established. One is identified as a former BRS sarpanch.
Police say the cases concern allegations that roads were treated with turmeric water after Dalit protesters had used them. Gajwel rural inspector D. Ravi Raju said a complainant alleged that a purification ritual followed the protest. The allegation remains to be tested in investigation and trial.
