BRS leaders K. T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao were detained outside the Telangana Assembly on September 7 during a protest marking 1,000 days of the Congress government in Telangana. Legislators wore black clothing carrying slogans including “Congress Failed to Deliver on Its Promises” and “1,000 Days of Failed Governance”. The protest was stopped at the gate. Democracy, apparently, has a dress code now.
BRS leaders alleged excessive force and manhandling. KTR said police were “smashing and thrashing” women MLAs, while Sabitha Indra Reddy and V. Sunitha Laxma Reddy made specific allegations about hair-pulling and dragging. Saifabad police reportedly registered cases against KTR, Harish Rao, Sudheer Reddy and others, alleging misbehaviour with police personnel and abusive language. The FIR sections and police video have not been published in the material reviewed. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has described the government’s 1,000 days as a period of “revolutionary decisions”; the BRS says Congress failed on roughly 420 promises. The government’s detailed answer to that count has not been found.
The Congress government has found time to stop black T-shirts. Its promised accounting remains in plain clothes.
