2,130 MW gone, and the unit count isn’t
A report claims five Telangana power units went offline last week. Its own breakdown lists at least six units or facilities, while official confirmation is still missing.

A report has claimed that three thermal units and two hydel units shut down in Telangana last week, affecting more than 2,000 MW of generation. Its figures add up to 2,130 MW: 1,870 MW from Yadadri Units 3 and 4 and Bhadradri Unit 3, plus 260 MW of hydel capacity. The arithmetic is tidier than the headline.
The same report lists Srisailam Unit 4, Nagarjuna Sagar Unit 3 and two Nizam Sagar units. That is either three hydel facilities or four hydel units—not two. The report attributes the outages to coal shortages and “maintenance failures”, but names no official or document for the explanation. TGGENCO, TGTRANSCO, the Energy Department, CEA and SCCL are not quoted.
The wider strain is real. A July report said demand had reached 16,500 MW against a rainy-season average of about 11,000 MW, while around 2,000 MW of hydel generation had stopped because of poor water availability. But that does not verify this September list. The state’s unit-wise outage records, restart times and causes have not been published in the supplied material. Even the count needs a repair before the plants do.
