22-A list trapped private land; Congress promises the paperwork cure
Telangana’s government has acknowledged errors in the prohibited-properties list. The political charge of a deliberate land-grab mechanism remains unproven.
Officials have promised to split affected survey numbers so eligible land can be registered.
Private landowners in Telangana have been blocked from registering property after eligible lands were wrongly included in the Section 22-A prohibited-properties list. The government has acknowledged the errors, apologised and promised corrections. The database, meanwhile, has been doing what databases do when nobody checks them: treating an entire survey number as problematic because only part of it was.
Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said old lists were sent to sub-registrars without removing land that had been regularised or cleared by court orders. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said affected survey numbers would be split so unaffected land could be registered. The official Bhu Bharati portal records the same whole-survey-number problem and provides a grievance process. The minister also said 511 applications were pending in Medchal–Malkajgiri; a separate report recorded more than 750 applications, not a confirmed statewide total.
BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao has alleged that the list was expanded for land grabbing, corruption and commissions, and claimed it grew from about 16 lakh acres under the BRS government to nearly one crore acres under Congress. The material available does not establish those figures or the alleged motive. It does establish an administrative failure, and the Congress government now has to publish the corrected data rather than offer another promise-shaped notification.
