30 families out, bill sent to CMC

United Federation of Residents Welfare Associations (UFERWAS), Cyberabad Chapter, has asked Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner G Srijana to arrange government-funded accommodation for 30 families evacuated after the August 22 Anjaiah Nagar building collapse, and to pay Rs 2 lakh to each family for emergency expenses, according to a report. The request seeks housing for one month until structural-stability reports clear re-entry. It says the families — including children and a 90-year-old woman — have spent four days in hotels or with relatives at their own cost. It also estimates household-goods loss at about Rs 1 crore, and lists Jayadarsini Residency and Sterling White Field Apartments among the affected blocks. These figures are UFERWAS’s claims.
CMC’s own account says the under-construction structure at Anjaiah Nagar was Ground + 6 with a penthouse and was put up “without obtaining the required building permission and without maintaining the prescribed setbacks”. A town-planning officer has been suspended “with immediate effect” for failing to stop the work, and the corporation asked police to register a criminal case against the named owners for construction without permission; those are allegations on a civic complaint, not court findings. Two workers died in the collapse; adjoining buildings were damaged and residents evacuated.
What is missing is the government’s answer. There is no published order yet on UFERWAS’s ask — month-long accommodation close to home and Rs 2 lakh per family — or a timeline for structural safety reports. The BJP-led Centre is not in this picture; the fix is local and municipal. The families did not pour the concrete or waive the setbacks; they are paying for both until the CMC steps up.
