₹3,785 crore claim meets the missing arithmetic
A report says Telangana owes TSRTC more than ₹3,785 crore, but the primary records currently available establish only a reported ₹1,834.34-crore gap between allocations and releases.

The Congress government in Telangana may have a transport-funding problem. It does not yet have a publicly demonstrated ₹3,785-crore bill.
A September 20 report, citing Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar’s Assembly answer, puts the gap between TSRTC allocations and reported releases at ₹1,834.34 crore across 2024-25, 2025-26 and 2026-27 up to August 31. The figures given are ₹10,433.89 crore allocated and ₹8,599.55 crore released. That arithmetic checks.
The larger figure is where the paperwork goes missing. The report adds an unspecified amount for free Mahalakshmi travel, introduced on December 15, 2023, and says the total exceeds ₹3,785 crore. No month-wise reimbursement statement, government calculation, TSRTC accounts or Assembly document supporting that addition is available in the material reviewed.
The state’s own September 2024 release said 83.42 crore women had travelled free and that TSRTC was receiving government reimbursement. That does not prove every rupee was paid by September 2026, but it does make the government’s position clear: reimbursement exists, even if the outstanding balance does not yet have a public ledger.
The Congress government has not bothered to publish the reconciliation needed to settle the matter. For now, ₹1,834.34 crore is reported; ₹3,785 crore remains an arithmetic request with the arithmetic removed.
