A seven-storey under-construction building collapsed in Anjaiah Nagar near Gachibowli around 1 pm on August 22, killing two workers and injuring two residents in an adjoining block, according to PTI and city officials. Fire and NDRF teams pulled out the victims and advised residents of affected buildings to stay out until a stability check on August 23 confirmed they were safe.
HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath said the structure rose seven floors plus a penthouse on a plot of about “50–60 square yards”, near a nala and without mandatory setbacks — violations he said would now trigger demolition drives against similar buildings. The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation’s commissioner G. Srijana said the building “had been seized four months ago, but construction work resumed on Friday,” adding it collapsed before officials could act further. Police have registered a case against the plot owner and the building contractor.
A later police-attributed account reported the structure had no permission at all. Names circulating for the alleged owner (Syed Sajid) and contractor (Khaja Moinuddin) are from police quotes in secondary reports and await FIR confirmation. What caused the failure — design, materials, the nala-side ground, or nearby excavation — will need a technical assessment. What is not in doubt is that two men went to work and did not come home because a seven-storey tower was stacked onto a 50–60 sq yd patch without a sanctioned plan the police now say never existed.
