The Telangana Assembly suspended more than 20 BRS MLAs for the remainder of the Monsoon Session after repeated protests, slogans and disruption in the House. K. T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao were among those suspended after Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu moved the motion and Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar approved it. (Indian Express)
The exact number is disputed: one report says 21, while three others say 22. The discrepancy appears linked to Gangula Kamalakar, whom one account says was absent but still included in the suspension list. The Assembly has not surfaced an official suspension order or proceedings record in the material consulted. Counting legislators, apparently, is now also a matter for political interpretation.
BRS members had sought discussion on alleged police misconduct involving women MLAs and law-and-order issues. Congress members raised an alleged cleansing ritual near KCR’s Erravelli farmhouse. BJP floor leader A. Maheshwar Reddy questioned the suspension and the inclusion of an absent MLA. The Congress government has not publicly answered that procedural objection in the reports consulted.
The suspension also consumed House time while issues including the 22-A list, fee reimbursement and pending retired-employee benefits remained pending, according to Telangana Today. The official record still owes the state one simple answer: how many members were suspended, and under what rule.
