BRS enters Well, Congress suspends session’s Opposition

BRS MLAs were suspended for the remainder of the Telangana Assembly’s monsoon session after raising slogans, displaying placards and entering the Well. Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu moved the suspension motion, which Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar accepted after appeals to return to their seats went nowhere.
The immediate dispute involved BRS demands for discussion on alleged police high-handedness against women MLAs and remarks attributed to Congress MLA Veerlapally Shankar about former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. The underlying allegations have not been independently established. Sridhar Babu said Congress did not endorse such remarks and wished KCR a long and healthy life.
The suspension removes the affected BRS members from the House for the rest of the session. The precise number has become its own small parliamentary mystery: reports put it at 21, 22 or 27. The Assembly has not made an official suspension resolution or proceedings record available in the material reviewed. Congress has managed to suspend the Opposition before the paperwork settled.
