BRS puts Congress promises on trial
A week of protests, dues cards and one 420-foot flexi later, the Congress government still has a promise ledger to answer.
The BRS campaign has demanded a consolidated account of the Congress government’s promises and dues.
The BRS has taken the Congress government’s 1,000-day mark to the streets, with a statewide campaign from September 2 to 8 built around dharnas, farmer meetings, village protests, youth and women’s programmes, Prajavani submissions and “Dues Cards” for unfulfilled promises. The calendar also included support for teachers’ and government employees’ protests on September 10. Whether every planned event happened is not independently documented.
The campaign was not confined to a press note. Reports recorded auto-rickshaw rallies in Secunderabad Cantonment, Nalgonda and Patancheru; a farmers’ dharna near Makthal; village-level activity in Jogulamba Gadwal and Suryapet; and protests in districts including Nirmal, Mahabubabad, Mulugu and Siddipet. In Sircilla, the BRS said it displayed a 420-foot flexi against what it called the failure of 420 promises.
The numbers behind the charge sheet remain political claims, not audited arrears. The BRS says Congress promised 420 commitments, six guarantees and delivery within 100 days, while KTR has cited more than Rs 12,000 crore in pending fee reimbursement. Harish Rao put the alleged Aasara dues at Rs 66,000 per beneficiary. The sources reviewed do not provide a complete promise list, department-wise status table or official arrears data. Congress has publicised its achievements, but has not bothered to answer each allegation in one consolidated reply. The BRS has supplied the cards; the Congress government still has to supply the ledger.
