Canal lining lasts a month. Congress ‘completed’ it

RCC side-lining on the Sitarama Project’s Enkoor/Rajiv link canal in Khammam has peeled off weeks after water release. Farmers want repairs and a technical inquiry. The Congress government talked up “completion”; it can now explain this version of it.

A Telangana canal with large sheets of RCC lining peeled away, exposing the muddy embankment, while a fresh completion ribbon and banner hang above the damaged section and an official-looking folder rests on a concrete milestone.

RCC lining on the Enkoor–Rajiv link canal was reported damaged within weeks of water release.

Parts of the reinforced-cement-concrete side lining on the Sitarama Project’s Enkoor/Rajiv link canal in Enkoor mandal, Khammam, have failed less than a month after water was released, a report on August 14 said. The nine‑kilometre stretch between Repallewada and Imamnagar was described as built at about Rs 72 crore, with disintegrated RCC exposing the earthen embankment beneath and soil being washed out. Farmers demanded immediate repairs and a technical inquiry into materials and works, and asked the Congress government to act against the contractor, according to that report. The same canal was described as “completed” and connected to Wyra Reservoir on July 16 by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, who cited a sanction of Rs 100 crore. The cost figure does not match the Rs 72 crore cited for the nine‑kilometre section; the available material does not explain whether this is scope or estimate variance. The Irrigation Department has not published an inspection note, repair order, water‑release date or discharge details in the material we could find.

This link sits inside the larger Sitarama–NSP system the state is trying to integrate to move Godavari water toward Paleru via the left canal network; officials were told in June to expedite related links in Khammam. The engineering facts will live or die on a test report, not on a ribbon from a month ago. The Congress government in Telangana has yet to answer how a “completed” canal shed its lining before the posters did.
