The BJP‑led Centre told Parliament in March 2025 that the Palamuru‑Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS) is “not under consideration” for National Project status. That is the on‑record position — not a rumour, not a leak. According to the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s written replies, Telangana’s DPR reached the Central Water Commission in September 2022 and was sent back in December 2024.
The Union’s reasoning: PRLIS uses Krishna waters and inter‑State aspects sit with the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal‑II, so the matter is sub judice and “the techno‑economic appraisal… cannot be carried out.” In plain terms: no appraisal, no national‑project tag, no central money.
Telangana MPs asked, the Ministry answered, and the file was returned to Hyderabad while the BJP‑led Centre points to the tribunal and holds the door shut. Two years after the DPR landing on its desk, Delhi’s update is still a finger aimed at the courtroom, not a clearance.
