India’s Mirabai Chanu takes a third straight Commonwealth Games gold in women’s 48kg with an 85kg snatch and 105kg clean and jerk in Glasgow.

Mirabai Chanu won gold in the women’s 48kg at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, her third consecutive title after 2018 and 2022. She totaled 190kg — 85kg in the snatch and 105kg in the clean and jerk — to finish clear of the field.
According to contemporaneous reports, Chanu missed her opening snatch at 82kg before making 85kg, then missed her first clean-and-jerk attempt before lifting 105kg on her second. She skipped a third clean-and-jerk attempt after securing the win. Nigeria’s Ruth Asuquo Nyong was reported to have taken silver with 168kg.
NDTV reported Chanu’s post-event reaction: “This is my third gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. I am extremely happy.” The International Weightlifting Federation’s pre-event note had recorded her pursuit of a third straight Commonwealth Games victory, after silver in 2014 and golds in 2018 and 2022.
Multiple reports said the 85kg snatch, 105kg clean and jerk and 190kg total set new Commonwealth Games marks; the exact record classifications have not been confirmed against an official results sheet.
