Farmers in several Telangana districts protested on Friday, September 11, over alleged power cuts, interruptions and inadequate agricultural supply. Reports recorded demonstrations at substations in Siddipet, Mahabubabad and Mahabubnagar, among other districts. One report listed 16 protest locations, but no official statewide count was found.
In Siddipet, farmers held dharnas, blocked roads and burned an effigy of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, alleging that crops were drying because of insufficient power. Farmers in Yellampet said fluctuations were disrupting pump sets. In Makthal, protesters demanded 24-hour supply; an electricity official reportedly assured them that steps would be taken towards 12 continuous hours.
The Congress government has not published statewide feeder-wise supply data or explained the conflicting local figures. Reports cited complaints ranging from six to eight hours, and six to 10 hours, while an assistant divisional engineer said Maripeda mandal was receiving 12 continuous hours. The protests are real. The neat statewide eight-hour number is not yet.
