GHMC found ₹6.92 crore; accountability remains pending

GHMC says it identified duplicate and excess-payment discrepancies totalling ₹6,92,11,434 across 78 ERP invoices and recovered ₹6,83,75,773 linked to 74 invoices. The figures were attributed to Commissioner R.V. Karnan in published reports.
Another ₹8,35,661 linked to four invoices was reportedly received through demand drafts but was still awaiting credit to the GHMC General Fund. Vendors were reportedly blocked in the ERP system, and the matter was referred to the Vigilance Wing on July 27, 2026. A preliminary report was reportedly submitted on August 28.
The reported explanation involves payments through TReDS alongside direct GHMC payments, with reconciliation problems after the city corporation’s division. That remains an attributed account, not an independently verified technical finding. The available record establishes neither fraud nor contractor collusion.
What it does not establish is more awkward: the invoice list, the contractors, the officials who approved the payments, whether the demand drafts were credited, or what the Vigilance enquiry finally found. GHMC’s budget document confirms that its ERP handles bill processing and payments. It does not explain how the same money managed to find the door twice.
