GHMC’s Rs 100 crore became Rs 6.92 crore

A report has alleged a location mismatch and duplicate billing; GHMC’s cited preliminary figure is Rs 6.92 crore.
A report says GHMC Vigilance sought an explanation after a box-drain project sanctioned for Ward 28, Azampura, was allegedly shown as completed in Ward 26, Old Malakpet. The report says the Charminar engineering wing was asked to explain why the tender and the recorded worksite did not match. The Vigilance letter, work order, measurement book, bill and inspection report have not been made public in the material reviewed. So far, this is an allegation under inquiry, not an established finding.
The same report put alleged duplicate billing at nearly Rs 100 crore. A separate report citing GHMC’s clarification gave a much smaller preliminary figure: Rs 6.92 crore across 78 ERP invoices, with Rs 6.83 crore reportedly recovered and Rs 8.35 lakh being credited to GHMC’s General Fund. GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan was reported as saying the issue was detected by GHMC itself. The figures have not been reconciled publicly. GHMC’s ERP, described in its 2024–25 budget as covering sanctions, bills and payments, has now acquired the less glamorous job of explaining itself. (GHMC budget)
