Gudemdoddi gets ₹180 crore before 15 TMC exists
Reports say Telangana has approved preparatory funding for a proposed expansion, but the government order remains unverified and the department’s own note lists the reservoir at 1 TMC.
Preparatory funding has been reported for a proposed expansion of the Gudemdoddi Balancing Reservoir.
The Telangana government has reportedly approved ₹180 crore for studies and proposed land acquisition linked to an expansion of the Gudemdoddi Balancing Reservoir in Jogulamba Gadwal district. The proposal would examine increasing storage to 15 TMC and developing a solar-linked pumped-storage project.
The reported sanction includes ₹15 crore for technical investigations and ₹165 crore for acquiring about 1,100 acres. The studies may cover topography, geology, geotechnics, hydrology and bathymetry. The order is identified as G.O.Rt.No.467, dated September 9, 2026, but its original PDF has not been independently verified. So this is approval to investigate and acquire land, not a 15 TMC reservoir ready for construction.
There is also a small detail called arithmetic. The Irrigation Department’s existing Jawahar Nettampadu Lift Irrigation Scheme note records Gudemdoddi at 1.00 TMC, while the reports describe the current capacity as 1.19 TMC. The reports do not establish the full project cost, power capacity, completion date, affected villages or required environmental and rehabilitation approvals. The Congress government is not involved here; the unanswered questions belong to Telangana’s own departments, which should publish the order before the paperwork acquires a larger storage capacity than the reservoir.
