A section of Hussaini Kothi Road in Hyderabad has reportedly collapsed after a stormwater drain beneath it gave way, leaving the drain exposed and part of the road unusable, according to a report published on September 5, 2026.
The report said GHMC officials, along with Yakutpura MLA Jafar Hussain Meraj and Charminar MLA Zulfeqar Ali, inspected the site. GHMC has proposed a temporary box culvert, while a consultant was reportedly asked to survey the existing drain and assess whether it can be diverted. Funding would require approval from the GHMC standing committee, the report said.
An unnamed GHMC official was quoted as saying the box-culvert work could begin “by the end of this month”. The report does not establish the exact size of the collapse, the cause of the drain failure, whether funds have been sanctioned, or whether traffic diversions and safety arrangements are in place. It also does not identify the consultant or publish an engineering report. For now, Hyderabad has a collapsed road, a proposed temporary fix and a deadline that remains comfortably in the future.
