India led 5–0 after the first quarter, 10–0 at half-time and 13–0 after the third. Hockey India said the team won 18 penalty corners and a penalty stroke, while Pakistan registered none of those opportunities and no goal. Sukhveer Kaur converted the penalty stroke; Roshni Aind and Pooja Malik scored twice and three times respectively.
India will play the winner of Korea and Malaysia on September 12, according to Hockey India. The governing body called the result a “record” win, but the available records do not establish which previous mark it surpassed. For once, the scoreline is quite capable of campaigning for itself.
