India won the women’s cricket gold at the 2026 Asian Games on September 22, beating Sri Lanka by 147 runs at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. The scoreboard did not require a ministerial press conference: India made 216/3 in 20 overs, and Sri Lanka were dismissed for 69 in 15.4 overs.
Smriti Mandhana made 79 from 45 balls, Shafali Verma scored 48 from 29, and Richa Ghosh finished unbeaten on 49 from 22. A published match report said Ghosh struck 25 runs in the final over. Harmanpreet Kaur made 19.
India’s spin attack then took nine wickets. Deepti Sharma returned 3/6, while Shafali Verma, Shreyanka Patil and Sree Charani took two each. The tenth wicket was a run-out, because even a dominant scorecard still leaves room for one administrative detail. India retained the title it won at the 2023 Hangzhou Games.
